This summer I plan to ...
plan a trip to Scotland, Wales, Isle of Man and England....Ireland would be great too, but we think we will run out of time. My husband is retiring (early - from public employment) at the end of July and we would like to travel across the pond. That is the dream. The reality is we are trying to plan this around the schedules of our two at home children and their work/ college schedules and before my husband finds his next job (or I find a permanent one). But for now everyone is making a list of their 'must see' sites. Kevin - Oxford, land of JRR Tolkien; Erin - Scotland and Platform 9 & 3/4; Rick - Isle of Man, his grandfather's homeland, and Scotland and me - Wales, land of song and my ancestors, and Scotland.

That's very exciting. When will your trip begin?
ReplyDeleteI hope to visit England someday.
I'm not sure when we will go. We have to see what the timetable is for Rick to receive his Comp. time and vacation pay after he retires. And then because we are planning on taking Kevin and Erin, we will have to work around Erin's University schedule.
ReplyDeleteWhere in England were you hoping to go?
Jody,
ReplyDeleteYour trip sounds exciting! My husband and I went to Wales for two wonderful weeks in 1985. It is a beautiful country and the people are very friendly. We stayed in a 16th century cottage near Hay-on-Wye. It was so much fun to drive on the wrong side of the car, on the wrong side of the street, and negotiate their roundabouts.Hint: maybe you could practice on the new roundabout in the Valley or the one in Tallmadge. We finally just agreed that we would go around the roundabout twice: first to scope out the exits and second to actually get off the roundabout. Good luck! diane
We've decided that we really don't want to deal with the driving, so we are looking at taking the train as much as possible for wherever we go. we know someone who did that with his Mom and so we will pick his brain on how best to pull it off.
DeleteWow! What fun! I spent about 6 weeks in Ireland in 1998. Such a beautiful country! My plan was to make it to Scotland too, but we just never got around to it. I am very jealous- would love to get back there myself someday!
