A Star in the Family

25 Hill, The Avengers, Promised Land.

From showing up at Derby Downs on a whim, to a week near a State Park in Pennsylvania, my husband has launched into a second career (he says it's just a hobby)!

It started with an appeal by Corbin Bernsen for volunteers to fill Derby Downs for his Soap Box Derby film 25 Hill.  As a family, we went for the day as something interesting and fun to do.  Rick and Erin both took off from work the next two days to continue being a part of this fascinating experience.  We even got to attend the Red Carpet Premier at the Akron Civic Theater.

A couple of months after the premier of 25 Hill, there is an advertisement for extras for Marvel’s Avenger movie filming in Cleveland.  So Rick and Kevin go stand in line for three hours in the mid-day heat of summer, dressed in suits and ties.  Rick got called a few weeks later and spent a week working 4 pm to 4 am.  He is now visible and recognizable on the big screen.

Rick in The Avengers

About the same time as the Avengers release, he heard they were looking for extras for Matt Damon’s new film currently filming in the Pittsburgh area.  He emailed them and sent a picture and he will be heading that way in a week for at least four days of filming.

    1. Well, I'm not so sure about living on the edge, but we had fun with the soap box derby movie. It's kind of funny that Rick is so into this. Of the two of us, he's the quieter, reserved half.
